I UNDERSTAND THAT TRYING TO INFER LOGIC FROM INSTAPUNDITRY IS FUTILE, BUT...Glenn Reynoldsasserts that Iran has been at war with the United States "since 1979." My question: when does he start calling for Michael Ledeen to be put on trial for high treason for helping to sell arms to a country the U.S. is at war with?
Traitors to the Nation (according to Perfesser Corncob):
Michael Leedeen and the whole Iran-Contra crew.
What would we do without Instahackery's comic relief?
"The highly organized campaign of beatings, kidnappings and murders of Iraqi gays follows a death-to-gays fatwa issued last October by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the 77-year-old Iranian who is supreme spiritual leader of all Shia Muslims in Iraq. The fatwa, available on Sistani’s official Web site, puts it this way, “The people involved [in homosexuality] should be killed in the worst, most severe way of killing.” [snip] "This reign of terror represents the importation into Iraq of the anti-gay killings being carried out in the Islamic Republic of Iran (see “Iran’s Anti-Gay Pogrom,” January). The Iraqi murders are the work of the Badr Corps, the military arm of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). The largest political formation in Iraq’s Shia community, SCIRI was headquartered in exile in Tehran until Saddam Hussein's fall."
On Cheney's Order, U.S. Uses Terror Group For Iran Plans.
According to all three intelligence sources, military and intelligence
officials alike were alarmed that instead of securing a known terrorist
organization ["MEK"], which has been responsible for acts of terror against
Iranian targets and individuals all over the world – including US civilian and military casualties – Rumsfeld
under instructions from Cheney, began using the group on special ops
missions into Iran to pave the way for a potential Iran strike.
“They are doing whatever they want, no oversight at all,” one intelligence source said. […] “We are already at war,” the UN official told RAW STORY.
And what's the most special about this?
“The US army secured a key MEK facility 60 miles northwest of Baghdad shortly after the 2003 invasion, but they did not secure the MEK and let them basically be because [then Deputy Defense Secretary Paul] Wolfowitz was thinking ahead to Iran.”
[via Raw Story] A few days ago, we blogged about U.N. ambassador and recess-appointee John Bolton's saber-rattling at Iran. The Atlantic magazine, which has a pretty good predictive track record, pegs the chances of an overt air strike against Iran by Israel or the U.S. at 2:1 by March 31, 2007. Move the goal posts up to the end of 2006, and the odds go to 3:1.
