What Would Jesus Wear?
There's nothing worse than being out of style when the Rapture comes.
That's why Lawrence, KN resident Lori Devins created Extreme Christian Clothing, a boutique featuring Christ-worthy clothing at a reasonable price. Her store features t-shirts with slogans such as Got Jesus?, Satan Sucks, and My God can kick your god's butt. That last slogan is sure to keep false god-worshipers away.
"Our shirts are a little extreme, but I think God is spreading the word and having the youngsters shout out their faith," Miss Devins said. "I think teenagers want to evoke a response."
Christian retailers have even co-opted the SoCal style with C28, a store featuring Christian propaganda clothing in surf and skate styles. Why buy a secular Quicksilver shirt when you can wear a cross-bearing Truth Soul Armor shirt?
Hurry, call (888) NEED HIM, because Jesus just loved consumerism.

Some one just kill me,please.
hardcorechristianchick? What the hell does that mean exactly? Is she armed?Submissive to men?Able to leap a brood of babies in a single bound?
That tears it,stay tuned for my line of godlessheathenware....after I go outside and scream til my voice is gone.

Ah, excellent. About time a merchant started offering equipment for the Second Children's Crusade.

Oh, man. That's just tasteless.

In keeping with Christian teachings, I'm sure all their products are sweatshop free, right?......right?

A sticker that says "King Kong is not my Grandpa." ::sigh:: Does anything convey less of an understanding of the principles of evolution?

Seriously Susan. Have you ever seen such ignorance on a t-shirt before? Don't forget to purchase your Army of One T-Shirt--gotta have some Christo-Fascist war propaganda!

The comment in the Washington Times that religious kids want to be "cool and clever." I got news for them, they are only showing they are "nerdy and stupid." Since when did Jesus want any God to kick someone's but? And the post by Susan is great.
I bet that noxious Topeka minister, Phelps, would love to pump up the volume with some tee slogans of his own. You know the kind, Jesus Hates Fags and what not.

Geez. Not only does that co-opt (and implicitly endorse) the Army's recruitment slogan, it militarizes Christianity, something its own founder never did (by which I mean Christ, not Peter or Paul).
But thought-free machoism sells, and it's sure easier than setting a Christian example every day with that wimpy charity and forgiveness crap, no?
Loving the blog, BTW.

Lawrence, Kansas was one of the two blue counties in Kansas during the 2004 election. Perhaps these fine Christian war-mongers should have picked a different place to set up shop.

I guess it does take all kinds, but hell, does there have to be so many of them and must they be so simple and nuts? Wonder if these clothes will be allowed in schools?
Posted by: pissed off patricia | May 10, 2005 at 11:25 AM
Militarized Christianity indeed Susan. Onward Christian soldiers, invade ye schools with the word of the Lord scrawled across your breast.
Patricia, unfortunately we're talking about first ammendments rights here, so yeah they can probably wear this shit in the schools.
What the fuck's the matter with Kansas?!

Christianity is not a badge or a belief that should foster hatred. Christ preached tolerance and acceptance. These t-shirts are just another example of the right-wing polarization of Christianity that results, not in a manifestation of the Word, but in persecution. Christianity was not designed for fascism!

"Christianity was not designed for fascism!" Hear hear. I think the book of Acts makes that pretty clear.
Nauseating and militaristic as it may be, though, I believe kids should be able to wear these in schools (so long as wares espousing other views are allowed). I suppose some fancy it a "witnessing tool," but I shudder to imagine the kinds of people these messsages speak to--and speak for.

It's an old dictum that "Even Satan can quote Scripture" to suit devilish ends. And it's an unfortunate but undeniable fact that the prime religious texts of the three main Western religions have enough material (much of it self-contradictory) in them that anybody with an agenda can find a verse or two to justify his or her cause.
Core messages don't matter to extremists; by definition they work from the fringe. If there's a scrap of "evidence" they an use, and if they can twist and spin it so that it looks like it has the legitimacy of the core message itself, then said extremists will seize it faster than Jesus can vomit.
