Die Cindy Die!

There's a battle waging under the hellish sun in Crawford, Texas. It's an ideological battle as well as well as a battle for the truth. In some ways it is a battle for the soul of America. In my opinion I think the Sheehan thing is running out of steam. If people want to end this war then they can't rely on just one mother. Cindy Sheehan can't hold the entire weight of the anti-war movement on her shoulders. She has started something unique but the left must act now and demand that their elected officials act too. That's if they can get past those who would like to see Cindy Sheehan's head on a pole. (Check out Neil Shakespeare's fab work).

Cindy Sheehan and her supporters at Camp Casey have been challenged by a group of pro-war activists calling themselves the "You Don't Speak For Me Cindy Tour". These Bush supporters have established Camp Reality Kool Aid across the road from Camp Casey. The "You Don't Speak For Me Cindy Tour" started in California and made its way via caravan to Crawford to tell Cindy that she doesn't speak for them. So, exactly, who are these people whom Cindy Sheehan does not speak for?

This counter-protest is organized by the friendly folks at the Orwellian-named Move America Forward, a self-proclaimed "non-partisan" organization. But Move America Forward is in fact a right-wing political advocacy group founded and headed by California Republicans and staff members of the public relations firm Russo Marsh and Rogers, which has strong ties to the Republican Party. Well of course Cindy doesn't speak for these fascist warmongers. Anti-Sheehan protest leader and conservative talk radio host Melanie Morgan doesn't have children in Iraq so why would she care about Peace Mom Cindy?

Morgan might be a somewhat attractive bubble-headed bleached blonde that resembles Stifler's Mom from American Pie, but she's really a wingnut psycho hose beast who chooses to sublimate her repressed gambling addiction by yelling anti-Sheehan outbursts from Camp Kool Aid. Yes, I said gambling addiction. Her penchant for dice and poker chips was so heinous back in the 1990's that she had her very own made-for-TV movie called High Stakes: The Melanie Morgan Story! When the Lifetime Network makes a movie about you then you know you have serious problems. I looked far and wide but was unable to find any pictures from this 1997 movie so I made my own poster seen to the right.

Truth Out has some great reports and video clips from Camp Casey vs. Camp Kool Aid. My favorite one is the war supporter who says he won't join the military to fight in Iraq because he can "better serve here in America". Make sure to check out the gal with the "Kick Their Ass and Take Their Gas" sign. If Toby Keith is smart he'll snatch that catchy phrase for his next hit single "Stealin' Oil For Jesuz".

Dont you love how the chicken hawks think war is grand so long as its someone else fighting the wars?

And to smear and harrass a military mother like cindy sheehan, simply because she dares to question Bush's illegal war? Not to mention the lies the war was based upon. They are showing their true colors and FINALLY the media is actually documenting it.

My hope is that this will backfire against the Right- they are using slimeball tactics and the message is clear- dont dare question Bush or stray from the neocon line or else....

You know Toby Keith is actually a democrat who questions the war. I didn't believe it either. I saw him interviewed a month ago or so talking about it. He said he thought America was lied to about why we went to war and that he's been a lifelong dem. Who knew?! Obviously none of his fans...

I agree with you that it is too much to expect Cindy Sheehan to be the entire anti-war movement. The dems are MIA. Most liberals are too. There is no movement because there is no leadership. Perhaps a dem will finally step up and start sharing the load. Probably not, though.

Meanwhile, I fear New Orleans is no more. What a tragedy.

Great post. There's more about "Move America Forward" and the PR firm of Russo Marsh & Rogers, who's pulling the strings behind Move America Forward.

This firm instigated the "grassroots" recall of CA governor Gray Davis in 2003. He'd just been re-elected; I guess the Republicans forgot their own slogan about "you lost, get over it."

This same firm also engineered a "populist" uprising against Rep. Barbara Lee when she refused to vote yes on an anti-terrorism resolution after 9/11.

Any time you see a "spontaneous" "grassroots" rightwing uprising, scratch the surface -- you'll probably see Russo Marsh & Rogers pulling the strings.

Yes Tom. Don't forget the role Enron played in the 2003 recall too. Their manipulation of the California power grid led to the faux energy crisis and rolling blackouts which the Republicans blamed on Gov Davis. Now I have to live under the reign of the Gropenfuhrer here in Cahlyfohnia.

Moveon.org joined Cindy after she had gone to Crawford herself. But the Republican PR firms have been funding these types of events for decades. Remember how Tom DeLay sent his staffers down to Florida to disrupt the recount by having them bang on the windows and doors of the county clerk's office?

Great catch on the Melanie Morgan freak. Rhandi Rhodes imitates her hollering out "Quagmire? Quagmire?" anytime someone mentions that Iraq is turning into a quagmire. Looks like Melanie functions like our government, everything is just a roll of the dice. Except when they lose, they lose nothing, we lose everything.

I fully agree that the left shouldn't rely excessively on personality cults. The Sheehans and rock stars are all fine but in the end, we'll need to organize the notorious [in hushed tones] "man in the street."
