The Latest In Blog Advertising

Xena1Remember the furor that raged in the left blogosphere regarding the Daily Kos Pie Fight ad a couple months ago? I myself found that debate to be rather pointless and distracting from the real issues at hand.

Well, there's another BlogAd that might arouse similar controversy. I spotted this Xena ad (to the left) on a blog recently. At first glance I thought it was some sexy ad for bath products until I noticed the Xena DVD box right below the soaped-up bathing women. Back in 1990's, wasn't Xena's cult following driven by the unspoken fact that she was secretly a lesbian? Maybe that's why so many young and horny teenage boys watched the show. I myself never caught on to the Warrior Princess fever like some of my fellow males did.

Comments

I never watched the show for more than 7 minutes at a time, and even then I maybe only saw it five times. But I did like Zena and the concept of the show. She reminded me of a real-life "She-Ra" (something I would have liked to have seen done) only not as clean cut.

It probably won't, since feminists love Xena and this is genuinely appealing to lesbians, not just straight men.

True. Xena was always a positive role model for women. From what I remember she was bold, empowering and didn't take any crap from chauvinist barbarians. We could use someone like her to battle Herr Gropenfuhrer here in California.

I think it's clear that lesbians, by far, are the favorite gays. They appeal to both men and women. I never watched Xena because it always seemed silly to me, but I would like to see her do battle with Rick (man-on-dog) Santorum.

You gotta love those reality based shows. *groan* What exactly is the point in showing chicks doing stuff that they can't do in real life? For example, beat up men. While channel surfing once, I saw xena pick up a guy who looked like an NFL linebacker over her head and twirl him around like a propeller before sending him flying about 25 feet.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I guess that's why it's called fantasy.

The same people should make a teevee shew for young boys showing men pregnant and giving birth!

Is it wrong that I've no intent to see the shows but still enjoy the ads?

Hey, 000000, it's fantasy. Xena has super powers. Get over it, or change the channel.

Fantasy, my ass. It's feminist propaganda.

Dude, she was bisexual. I liked that show.

Dude, she was bisexual.

As all my favorite women are, erobin.

The relationship between Xena and Gabrielle got more open as the show went on and the producers realized they had a large lesbian following. But I thought they kept things reined in just enough between them so that we had to guess if they were actually lovers. The bath scene there says differently. Maybe I should go back and watch the later seasons.

Interestingly, there's a cartoon Xena meets Hercules. My kids watched it. And I had everything I could do to keep from laughing, not at how bad it was, and it was bad. In the story, Gabrielle gets turned into a giant hawk by some evil goddess or magician, early in the show, and the whole rest of the way Xena spends lots of time "comforting" her with hugs and strokings and pets and even kisses on the beak and forehead. So actual girl on girl was out, but girl on bird was fine for kids?

I told you over at BlondeSense I hated this shit!

Fantasy, my ass. It's feminist propaganda.

I wouldn't call it feminist propaganda. I bet that the majority of writers, directors and producers of the Xena series were male. Why else would they make her bisexual?

If it were feminist propaganda, she would have been 100% lesbian. A fish without a bicycle and all that idiotic shit.
