I'm offering my Photoshopped® pic to anyone who wants to blog Colt-er's plagiarism. Colt-er because she is sort of horse faced.

This is like the sunlit and breezy end to one of those "Ever get that not-so-fresh feeling?" commercials. Getting that whiff of an artificial bouquet?

I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work--a life's work in the agony and sweat of the human spirit, not for glory and least of all for profit, but to create out of the materials of the human spirit something which did not exist before. So this award is only mine in trust. It will not be difficult to find a dedication for the money part of it commensurate with the purpose and significance of its origin. But I would like to do the same with the acclaim too, by using this moment as a pinnacle from which I might be listened to by the young men and women already dedicated to the same anguish and travail, among whom is already that one who will some day stand where I am standing.

Our tragedy today is a general and universal physical fear so long sustained by now that we can even bear it. There are no longer problems of the spirit. There is only one question: When will I be blown up? Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat. He must learn them again. He must teach himself that the basest of all things is to be afraid: and, teaching himself that, forget it forever, leaving no room in his workshop for anything but the old verities and truths of the heart, the universal truths lacking which any story is ephemeral and doomed--love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice. Until he does so, he labors under a curse. He writes not of love but of lust, of defeats in which nobody loses anything of value, and victories without hope and worst of all, without pity or compassion. His griefs grieve on no universal bones, leaving no scars. He writes not of the heart but of the glands.

Until he learns these things, he will write as though he stood among and watched the end of man. I decline to accept the end of man. It is easy enough to say that man is immortal because he will endure: that when the last ding-dong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still talking. I refuse to accept this. I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet's, the writer's, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet's voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.

It should get pulled but since when do wingnuts get treated the way the rest of us do? It's like they have "I'm a wingnut" plastered on their face so everyone gives them a pass.

Who is this M. Murad, and what is it talking about?

I would love to think that Coulter will be busted, but I think she's too famous. Somehow, the powers that be will make it work in her favor. If it were otherwise, she wouldn't even be where she is now. It seems that stupidity and hate are rewarded these days. Maybe it's the new in-thing. Who knows.

I think the long passages from some other writer are being posted unattributed in "protest" to this article about Coulter.

You saw boobs? I only saw the one between her hair and shoulders...

I work in an independent bookstore, and though we are politically opposed to Coulter, we carry her books because of our philosophy that we are in business to provide information to the community. We do not see it as our place to censor. However, we do not tolerate authors who plagiarize. This morning, after learning of her cribbing, we pulled her books from the shelf. What a way to celebrate the holiday!

By the way, love the unattributed reference to Finnegan's Wake.

I did not mean to post three times. Sorry. My internet's acting funky.

Can't spell Ann Coulter without c,n,u, and t.

Jason,

Worth reading 3 times!

Coulter's a cartoon character in 2 of 3 ways:

She's 2-dimensional.

She's persona rather than a person.

She just ain't funny.

Hey, congrats on making Raw Story! Great work, and great exposure for this topic. She definitely needs to be called to task for the plagiarism, if not for voter fraud.

She is a crystal meth freak. Check out the photo. Explains the hysteria, also. Word.

I'm seeing some buzz building. I'll give it some bandwidth in my venues for sure. I love this story. Better than the voting fraud even.

Ann Coulter’s Peroxide Neo-Fascism

In 1927, for better or for worse, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes allowed for mandatory sterilization in the Supreme Court case Buck v. Bell: “three generations of imbeciles are enough.”

If Ann Coulter ever reaches the bench, this will read:

“Three generations of liberals are enough.”

Forget Coulter’s calculated rants against the widows of 9/11, and forget her diatribes against “the Church of Liberalism.” After all, Coulter is just one of many pundits quick to condemn all things “conservative” or, in her case, all things “liberal” (which must include wheelchair ramps and ending child labor).

It’s astonishing, by the way, that Ann Coulter thinks she is a conservative when she rejects the entire menu of conservative principles: limited government; checks and balances; prudent use of force; and modernism with ethics. Coulter’s betrayal of true conservatism, as elaborated by Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower, is total.

What makes Ann Coulter dangerous, especially if her ideas find purchase in our new United States of Amnesia, is the following very un-conservative idea: blaming liberalism on a mental disorder: “… and Godless is about the underlying mental disease that creates liberalism.”[1]

It continues: “In the history of the nation, there has never been a political party so ridiculous as today's Democrats. It's as if all the brain-damaged people in America got together and formed a voting bloc.”[2]

And try this one by Ann: “When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty. We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. Otherwise, they will turn out to be outright traitors."[3]

In the 1930s, Nazi doctors diagnosed communists, homosexuals, Jews, gypsies and other people as inferior, even as biological “defectives.” The linking of culture or politics and disease opened the door to the classification, detention and even extermination of entire groups of people.

Coulter’s Perfect World would include a set of 1930s-style laws, New and Improved:

Laws for the Prevention of Genetically Liberal Offspring
Laws for the Protection of Conservative Blood and Honor
Conservative Blood Certificates

Of course, Coulter will insist on reviewing each application for a Conservative Blood Certificate. Some of the applicants, after all, might be the result of unions between a “one quarter liberal” and another “one quarter liberal,” and such people, with liberalism coursing through their veins, would dilute the conservative gene pool.

Sounds crazy? You’d better be sitting down.

First, researchers in the emerging field of “biopolitics” are making progress identifying “liberal” and “conservative” people based on brain scans. Apparently, different parts of the brain flare up for different political orientations when presented with similar stimuli. Is there a “liberal gene”?[4]

Second, the Republican-backed “New Freedom Initiative” will permit psychological testing in schools and hospitals and mandatory medication: No Child Left Unmedicated, New Freedom-style. That’s right: Shut Up and Take Your Drugs. Duplicating 1950s Soviet psychological screenings doesn’t sound very “conservative” to me, but then again, neither did a Single Party State based on mass surveillance.[5]

And third, Congress recently approved some 400 million dollars for Halliburton detention camps – not just for national emergencies but also for “new programs.” You might want to ask the Japanese-Americans about that one.[6]

Was the seed of neo-fascism planted in Coulter’s mind by The Bell Curve? That book, written by Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray, dismissed centuries of racial oppression and pretty much blamed low African-American test scores on skin color.

No, Herrnstein and Charles Murray stopped short of a total merger between Kultur and Natur. Coulter must have been reading Mein Kampf - and probably, considering her temperament, as a beach book.

We are right to take alarm at Coulter’s words because so many other preconditions for fascism are present in America. It’s not 1940, of course: it’s 1935: the alliance between state and monopoly capital; the erosion of civil liberties; the corruption of elections; the linking of dissent with treason; the steady militarization of the homefront; the move towards permanent war; the value of action for action’s sake; the anti-intellectualism; the Gallophobia; the disdain for human rights laws; and the impulse to concentrate of power around the executive branch – albeit without a charismatic leader, the only thing missing from the mix.

Of course, a vigorous program of eugenics was also missing, but now a master race of Uber-Conservative Coulter Clones lies on the horizon.
