Oh big fucking deal ... John Warner says the Boy King should start bringing troops home by Christmas. Is that the same John Warner who has voted with Bush on pretty much everything? Is that the same John Warner who is likely a lame duck? Is that the same John Warner who has, like the Boy King, the blood of hundreds of thousands on his hands?
Why does any sentient being think Warner's pronouncement means anything? Warner will continue to be a Bush-enabler. Nothing will change. Thousands more will die. Period.
UPDATE: Atrios on Little Tommy Friedman's "Suck on This" war strategy:
For those of us who were alive during the glorious 2002 summer of war, this was essentially the conservative blogosphere's reason for going to war, before we all got distracted trying to chase down and refute the reams of bullshit coming out of the White House about weapons and al Qaeda connections and blah blah blah. I believe Steven de Beste wrote a 3 million word essay, linked to and praised by everyone, which could've been shortened to "We need to tell them to suck on this."
No one could have predicted that this was a bad idea! No one could have predicted that arming multiple sides in sectarian conflict could have negative consequences! No one could have predicted that a government hiding in the US controlled green zone might lack legitimacy!
No one but all the people I stood with at the Imagine Circle on the evening the war started. Oh, and the entire Reality Based Community.
MORE: Melissa also says feh!
AND he's only calling for 5,000 troops, about 3%, to come home. You have to dig pretty far down in most articles about his announcement to find that little nugget. AND he says it can be on whatever time-table Bush wants.
The guy's useless, a WINO.
