Remember Ward Churchill? The marginalized and discredited college professor, who when asked what it would take to motivate people to stand up in protest of the Iraq war, replied:
The pwogs are beside themselves. This fellow dares us to, "Imagine what would happen if someone on the left had said this." Ward Churchill would prolly tell ya.
I don’t have a ready answer for that. One of the things I’ve suggested is that it may be that more 9/11s are necessary. The FOX News analog for marginalized and discredited college professor Ward Churchill, is former CIA Bin Laden Chief Michael Scheuer, who when asked what it will take to motivate people to stand up in protest of illegal immigration, replied:
The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States.
The pwogs are beside themselves. This fellow dares us to, "Imagine what would happen if someone on the left had said this." Ward Churchill would prolly tell ya.
He's got a lot to do with everything! According to an article in the New Yorker published just yesterday, Osama was indeed in America in 1979, which means that since those fateful and traumatic days, Jimmy Carter has been building homes for lower class Al-Qaeda sleeper cells! That's what the fuck I'm talking about!

I always knew this was all Carter's fault.

Since Bin Laden is dead, I guess that means as a country we have no chance at all.

What killed me about the Ward Churchill story is how any obscure college professor, in the eyes of the right, can be pasted right onto the left like they are a part of the left at large. Before they made a scandal out of Ward, nobody had heard of him. I had heard of him, because I have a lot of Dead Kennedy's records and Jello Biafra spoken word albums and Ward did a couple spoken word albums for Biafra's label, Alternative Tentacles. I never bought one of those records, though, but figured it was a quirky band title... I never realized this Ward Churchill person was an actual person until the right decided to bukkake all over him. If people like me who were most likely to know about Ward didn't know who he was, how could he speak for the left in general?
I'm also bothered by the right's propensity to destroy the lives of those who speak and write things they don't like. Like getting Ward Churchill fired for something he wrote -- what, the guy doesn't need a paycheck to make a living? Maybe I'm just biased because I've also been the target of rightwing tactics, including a website posted revealing my identity with the express purpose of future employers hoping that they Google my name, find that website, and don't hire me. Seriously, you have to be pretty demented to attempt to ruin somebody's life just because you don't agree with what they say.

Come on now, Ward Churchill is a self-loathing nut. Our sell-out left has engaged in the character assassination with Palin, which will end up energizing her. These things always have repercussions. No, idiots like Churchill do not deserve the attention of anyone. Nuff said

people who care about party politics like to paint the millions of people of the opposition with the deeds of the lone "nuts" like these. dems get painted with everyone to the left of the two parties, republicans get painted with everyone to the right. sucks most to be a dem, because there is way more spectrum to the left. those fuckers get saddled with a very wide range of leftist stuff despite being a party of craven, corporate sycophants, who have much more in common with republicans than the ward churchill's of the world.
what struck me as funny about the two examples in the op was just this disparity of spectrum. the major parties are so far to the right that the counter-example to a marginalized "self-loathing nut" on the left, is a former CIA chief on the right.
and, Mayor Bee, what the fuck does sara palin have to do with anything? what the fuck are you talking about?
